Google Huawei announce compensation for faulty Nexus 6P device users

Reports indicate that Google and equipment manufacturer Huawei have preliminarily agreed to settle a class action lawsuit filed by users of Nexus 6P, who claimed that their devices experienced a bootlooping problem which led to phones shutting down randomly, regardless of their battery level.

Citing reliable sources, the companies are liable to pay $9.75 million in settlements, pending court approval, for the class action which started in April 2017. It could result in participant plaintiffs receiving payment of up to $400.

According to the filed lawsuit, Google and Huawei were in breach of the device warranty since they were aware of the bootlooping issue but did not address the bug. Huawei was apparently one of the third-party manufacturers to which Google had contracted the designing and manufacturing of its early Android smartphone devices.

The plaintiffs alleged that the companies continued the sale of the faulty devices and failed to acknowledge the problem. If the settlement receives court approval during the next hearing, Nexus 6P owners in the U.S. who bought the phone on or after 25 September 2015 would be eligible to receive the compensation, sources informed.

Supposedly, the current proposal says that those people eligible for the settlement could be given up to $400 for their faulty phone, whereas those who received a Pixel XL device previously in the warranty exchange program would get only $10. The most amount of settlement money will be received by those who submit proper documents for the bug and those without documentation will be eligible for an amount of up to $75.

Sources mentioned that in January 2018, LG had settled a similar class action lawsuit regarding bootloop problems with the V10, V20, G4, G5 and Nexus 5X devices, where each user had been paid out $425, or $700 in the form of a rebate.
